Prospect Primary name 16 as prefects for 2009/10 school year
On Monday October 28 the annual prefect ceremony took place at Prospect Primary School.
It was a happy day and sad day: happy because the honour of being a prefect was being bestowed upon 16 of us; sad as our long-serving school secretary, Ms Carol Smith, had died. The ceremony was held in her honour.
Ms Winsome Place, one of the Primary 6 teachers, called out the names of the students chosen to be prefects. The newly appointed prefects took their places on the stage and were handed a Prefect Pledge to recite. School Counsellor, Mr. Anthony Peets, read aloud each line of the Pledge and the prefects repeated the Pledge in chorus.
The Pledge is as follows:
"I will abide by school and class rules at all times.
"I will be an excellent representative of Prospect Primary School wherever I go.
"I will honour our REACH goals of Respect, Enthusiasm, Achievement, Citizenship and Hardwork.
"I will show dignity and respect towards myself and others in every situation.
"I will model self-control in and out of school.
"I will show self-discipline in my walk, my dress and my speech.
"I will come to school prepared and do my best.
"I will respect myself, respect others, respect my environment and be safe.
"If it's to be, it's up to me!"
After reciting the pledge, the prefects were presented with their prefect badges by the principal, Dr. Shangri-La Durham Thompson, who reinforced the school's expectation of them. Pictures were then taken with the principal, deputy principal, Ms. Dorothy Trott, teachers of P6, Ms Winsome Place and Ms Debbie Smith, and school counsellor Mr. Anthony Peets.
As students of Prospect Primary School the newly-appointed prefects felt honoured to be given the responsibility of prefect. Being a role model for students is an important task and not to be taken lightly.
Thanks were given to teachers, parents and peers for all of their support.
