Gag order slapped on players

Bermuda national cricket team coach Gus Logie talks to the world press at Queens Park Oval before training in preparation of tomorrow match against Sri Lanka.

The Bermuda team management yesterday barred the media from talking to any of the players other than coach Gus Logie and captain Irving Romaine.

Bizarrely, requests for interviews with other players were granted by manager Lionel Tannock when Bermuda turned up for their last major training session before the opening match with Sri Lanka today at the Queen’s Park Oval.

But having sat around for more than three hours watching the team practice in the nets adjacent to the main field, the waiting press corps was then told that the situation had now changed.

Some players either chose to ignore the management’s edict or were confused by the sudden about-turn and did spare a few minutes of their time to speak with the three different Bermuda news organisations that have flown to Trinidad to cover their World Cup campaign.

But others said they were simply no longer allowed to speak to the media and declined to answer any questions.

No reason was given for the decision.
