Woman hit by car as she retrieves cell phone from road

A Pembroke woman was hit by a car after she went into the road to pick up a cell phone she had dropped.

The 29-year-old victim was riding a motorcycle, on Reid Street Extension, between Spurling Hill and King Street, in Hamilton, before the accident took place.

The woman had dropped her cellular phone at the junction of Reid Street and King Street around 2 p.m. on Thursday. She decided to get off her bike and pick up the phone, when a car travelling into the city crashed into her.

Her right arm and back were hurt and she was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment before being released.

The driver of the car, a 47-year-old Pembroke woman, was not hurt. However, the car did have minor damage to one of its mirrors.
