LOS ANGELES (AP) — The historic Queen Mary in Long Beach is getting a $5 million makeover to lure more visitors to the floating landmark.
A renovation that began in 2008 should be completed by year's end. The city and a company that took over management last fall gave a progress report.
The Queen Mary's salons and banquet rooms are spruced up and 75 hotel staterooms have been restored to Art Deco elegance but with modern perks such as flat-screen TVs.
The operator, Delaware North Cos., plans to remodel all 314 staterooms.
The ship that carried movie stars in style and ferried soldiers in the Second World War has been docked in Long Beach since 1967.
