Veteran Kent still going strong

Veteran triathlete Kent Richardson continues to impress when others his age are either pondering or enjoying retirement.

Competing at the weekend's Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the 50-year old Bermudian placed an impressive sixth in the 40-plus Elite Masters Division in an overall time of two hours, 19 minutes and 42 seconds.

"It was by no means my best and had I raced in the 50 to 54 age group my time would have won it by over two minutes," Richardson told The Royal Gazette.

"The course was great and the event itself was well put on – it was a great place to race."

Richardson placed 58th in an overall field of 90.

"I just wanted to test myself against elite competition," added Richardson.

The veteran triathlete has been active in recent weeks, having also competed in the National Time, Road and Sprint Championships locally as preparation for September's ITU Triathlon World Championships in Brisbane, Australia.

Matt Reed (one hour, 49 minutes and 15 seconds) and Sarah Haskins (two hours and 15 seconds) were the overall men's and women's winners of the Life Time Fitness Triathlon.
