Bermudian students get lesson in insurance
High-flying students attended a special one day workshop on insurance with St. John's University.
The workshop was held by St. John's University's School of Risk Management (SRM), a division of The Peter J Tobin College of Business. Three students from every high school were selected to attend the event at the ACE Global Headquarters. During the course of the one day event, held last Wednesday, the students attended several sessions led by insurance professionals from ACE and XL.
SRM has held an annual "Gathering of Friends, Educators and Students" for the last six years, but this is the first time that workshops were also set up.
"We have close and long-standing partnerships within the Bermuda insurance and education communities," said Dr. Ellen Thrower, executive director of SRM, and former president of The College of Insurance. "We are especially pleased to be working with ACE Ltd. and XL Capital Ltd. and the Bermuda high schools in this inaugural programme."
The SRM was founded in 1901 as the Insurance Society of New York and, over the years, evolved into The College of Insurance. In June 2001, TCI merged with St. John's University, becoming a school of the Peter J Tobin College of Business.
