Sisters sail in English regatta

Matilda and Flo Nicholls have returned to the Island after competing at the annual Youth Regatta at Aldeburgh on the East Coast of England.

Around 300 boats of various kinds took part in the competition with Matilda Nicholls, 8, racing in the senior optimist fleet for children up to 15-years-old, while Flo, 7, sailed in the fleet for the under-10s.

The winds remained strong for most of the week and a number of races were cancelled.

Matilda finished fouth in the morning race series and third in the afternoon series. Sister Flo was the youngest competitor in the whole event and although the winds were at the top end of her range, she came seventh overall.

The sisters have been involved in the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club (RBYC) summer sailing programme since July, which is now in its last week before the sailors prepare for the RBYC's fall sailing.

This includes one of the world's most prestigious optimist regattas, the Junior Gold Cup hosted by RBYC in October.
