No sweat for early leaders
Boulevard v Southampton Rangers
Boulevard will take to the field this weekend looking to increase their lead at the top of the table when they host Rangers in what should turn out to be a straightforward victory.
The pacesetters have already knocked off PHC and North Village and should be well worth the ticket of admission.
Andrew Bascome has his side playing some very attractive football against all opposition. And with Blazers looking like the early season title contenders everyone expected them to be, the question should be what can stop them, not who.
Melchizidec Gibbons (suspension) and Cud-Joe Matthews (abroad) will both miss the contest, but in the end their services won't be needed for the win.
Rangers will be looking to add to their solitary point from their opening day draw against Village but shouldn't expect too much from this match. A workman like performance will be needed to get any reward.
On any given match day, the underdogs can win. And they will bear this in mind when they step out tomorrow.
Prediction: Boulevard 3-1
PHC v Dandy Town
Dandy Town responded well to their opening day defeat by claiming three points against Hamilton Parish last week.
But the question remains, is all the pre-season hype surrounding this side for real?
The critics' questions will be answered tomorrow when they tackle PHC at Southampton Oval. And coach Meschach Wade isn't worried about what anyone says, as long as his men get their points.
"I am not worried about PHC," said Wade. "I am more concerned about my players and getting prepared for the next game, whether it is Rangers, Parish, Cougars or Zebras.
"Training is the hard part. Come Sunday you should be out there enjoying the game and atmosphere.
"We are up for the challenge coming up on Sunday."
Prediction: 1-1
Hamilton Parish v Devonshire Cougars
The Hot Peppers have enjoyed a very encouraging start to the season with three points already in the bag after two games. Yet they will be hard-pressed to find points from their next two matches.
They host second-placed Cougars tomorrow and will have to continue their tremendous work ethic if they are to be competitive in this contest.
Striker Jamie Smith has been in inspirational form for his side and if he can put the ball in the net and 'keeper Nigel Burgess can keep it out, anything can happen in this battle.
Cougars have started the season with consistency being their main ingredient. However, their woeful finishing last week against Colts left much to be worked on if they are to pick up the points from this match.
"We have preached the motto of taking one game at a time all pre-season," said defender Omar Butterfield.
"All our previous matches mean nothing now. Those games are over, we must focus on our next match. We have to continue to work hard in training and let our performances do the talking."
In the end, their never-say-die attitude should get them over in this tricky match.
Prediction: Cougars 4-1
Devonshire Colts v North Village
One point from their first two matches have many people wondering what is wrong with the Rams.
Another setback this weekend will surely have many fans around the Island scratching their heads about this side.
Depleted for various reasons, Village haven't looked like a side that should be contending for league honours this term and need to wake from their slumber soon before their title hopes are ended as quickly as they started.
More worrisome on the other side of the pitch will be Colts and their troubles.
How long can Aljame Zuill keep Colts in the top flight will be a talking point as the season continues. His heroics along with goalkeeper Khabir Dill's man-of-the-match performance against crosstown rivals Cougars got their side off the duck.
But the question asked will be whether anyone else can step up and produce the goods for Colts before they are fighting for their league status.
Prediction: Village 2-0
