Man fined $1,000 for cussing at the Police
A 42-year-old Pembroke man pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to using offensive words toward Police.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Police on patrol on November 20, saw Troy Smith, of Overview Hill, staggering along North Shore Road.
She told the court officers said Smith had a Guinness bottle in his hand and when he was asked to dispose of it, Smith refused and said: "F*** you man, I hate the Police."
According to Ms Clarke, Smith continued shouting as he was arrested by officers: "Why you arresting me? I'll never help the Police."
Smith, who has previous convictions, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that the Police report was incorrect and he was actually picking up litter from the road to place in the trash.
"I don't drink sir," he told Mr. Warner. "I saw a bottle in the road and picked it up to put in the trash."
He added: "The officer approached me, and he didn't even say good evening or anything. He just asked me what was my name.
"I said, 'What's your name?' and then he arrested me. I was not drinking. All I was doing was putting the bottle in the trash."
Mr. Warner fined him $1,000.
