Bermudian honoured by Oprah Winfrey
A Bermudian joined forces with Oprah Winfrey to raise thousands of dollars for charity.
Catherine Duffy chatted, hugged and held hands with the US television host after becoming one of the top ten fund-raisers for Oprah's 'Live Your Best Life Walk'. The event, held in New York on Mother's Day, marked the tenth anniversary of 'O, The Oprah Magazine'.
The talk show queen invited people to join her on a walk through the streets of Manhattan and to raise money for ten charities.
The ten top fund-raisers were then invited to walk next to Oprah herself, and Ms Duffy was one of them.
The Senior Vice President of Underwriting at Torus Insurance raised more than $11,800 for 'A Better Chance', which provides educational opportunities for underprivileged minority students in the US.
Ms Duffy was not only thrilled to meet Oprah but stood next to her on stage in front of thousands on the day of the event.
"We were on stage together and she gave me a big hug, and then she held my hand as we went down the stairs to the start of the walk," said Ms Duffy.
"She said she loved the charity I was supporting (A Better Chance) and that she gives a lot of money to them."
Ms Duffy said at one point during the 'O' tenth anniversary celebrations she was also standing next to Mary J Blige and Jennifer Hudson.
Unfortunately due to the numbers of spectators swarming around her, Oprah had to abruptly end her walk on Sunday for her own safety.
