Windjammer II to host first 'Not the Biennial' show

The Windjammer II Gallery manager Danjou Anderson is looking forward to receiving the entries for the 'Not the Biennial' Show, which opens in June.

Artists whose work was not accepted by the Bermuda National Gallery's Biennial will not be at a loss this year, as The Windjammer II Gallery is hosting its first ever 'Not the Biennial' show.

The Windjammer II Gallery owner Sheilagh Head and manager Danjou Anderson spoke to The Royal Gazette about their upcoming show, which is set to open on June 24.

"We would like any artist who submitted work to the National Gallery and it was not accepted to bring their work," said Mrs. Head. "This isn't a new idea, as it was done years ago in London with the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. It was commercially hugely successful and they have been doing it now for years.

"People are very interested in seeing what was chosen, as well as seeing some of the work that wasn't chosen.

"And maybe because as both a gallery owner and as an artist, I know that art isn't for everybody, so for that reason alone I am very, very keen to do this."

Mr. Anderson added: "We want framing to be considered, because the framing can make or break a painting, but things like that are very important to us.

"We are looking for the highest quality work that you can present."
