Broadley wants more games against USL
Derek Broadley envisages more USL youth academies coming to Bermuda following the success of the BFA's football festival against Crystal Palace Baltimore.
Bermuda's national academy played five matches against USA Eagles' under-15s, under-17s and senior team with Broadley hailing the concept as a winning formula for both parties.
On Saturday's final day of the festival Gary Darrell's under 17s won 1-0, Devarr Boyles' under-17s posted an emphatic 7-0 victory, while Scott Morton's under-23 side were beaten 1-0 by Palace's senior team.
"This series of matches against Palace will send out a positive message to the other USL teams and hopefully this can be a regular thing," said Broadley. "Palace have already expressed an interest in bringing a team to the Clyde Best Tournament next year.
"Economically it makes sense for us to make these matches a regular occurrence as it allows us to play quality overseas opposition."
Broadley said he had been impressed with the overall standard of Bermuda's play, particularly the under-15s who won both their matches in style.
"The under-15s showed that they are a very talented team with lots of potential and the under-17s improved in the second game and were well worth their 1-0 win," he said.
"I think the under-23s surprised a few people and played well against a very good team. I imagine a few of our players would have fallen under Palace's radar."
Palace's youth director Keith Tabatznik, a former Bermuda national team assistant, believed the series of matches had served the exact purpose they had been intended for.
"The games gave us a chance to see our players in a competitive environment against an international team," he said. "BFA Field is a great facility I think the national academy will really help improve the standard of Bermuda football.
"It was also a great experience for our under-17s to be able to play at the National Sports Centre before a professional match – that was special."
He added: "I was very impressed with Bermuda's under-15s who had some very dangerous players and were a difficult team to play against."
