A shoplifter was fined $300 for stealing a bottle of vodka from a supermarket.

Antoine Brangman, 40, admitted the theft at Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The court heard the offence took place on December 27, at MarketPlace in Sandys.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith said the assistant manager and an off-duty Police officer confronted Brangman after he left the store with a bottle of Smirnoff tucked into the waistline of his trousers, underneath his jacket.

He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he admitted the theft.

Brangman told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner yesterday: "It will never happen again."

He was fined $300.

Man bailed on trespassing charge

A man has pleaded not guilty to trespassing at Nine Beaches.

Antoine Aaron Carmichael, 39, entered the plea at Magistrates' Court yesterday. He denies trespassing at a dwelling house at the Sandys resort between March 7-28.

Carmichael, also of Sandys, was granted bail and the case was adjourned until June 3.

Garbage truck, 20 vehicles stolen last week

A garbage truck was among 21 vehicles reported stolen last week.

Police also received reports of 16 road accidents resulting in injury and 44 collisions causing vehicle damage. Officers arrested two motorists on suspicion of impaired driving.

Of the 21 vehicles reported stolen, five were recovered. This included one of two cars taken plus the garbage truck.

Cattle Lane, Southampton home burgled

Burglars got away with jewellery and cash from a house in Southampton on Monday.

The break-in took place in Cattle Lane between 10.30 a.m. and 5.20 p.m.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: "Inquiries into this incident are underway."
