MediaHouse doubled its profits in 2007 - finishing with an annual net income of $2.5 million.

Earnings rose from $1.1 million in 2006 and a $500,000 net loss in 2005.

The company, which owns the Bermuda Sun, Island Press, Bermuda.com and Global Directories which prints telephone directories around the Caribbean, is based in Bermuda.

Along with Bermuda.com the company plans to focus on e-business through its purchase of ASP Ltd. The company has been working on a product which enables yellow page directories to be accessible via cell phones. In addition, ASP continued to develop Micromaps, an interactive mapping system. Micromaps is now being launched into the market with the board's full support for this e-business venture.

Chief executive officer Randy French said: "In publishing both the Bermuda Sun and Preview of Bermuda recorded positive returns, despite the very competitive Bermuda market. It is anticipated that this sector will continue to be highly competitive as Bermuda's retail industry continues to decline, thereby challenging advertising-dependent companies to reach for excellence in order to maintain their market position."

He added that the company's focus on "superior products and customer service" has enabled the company to be profitable.

Annual profit translated into $4.78 per common share, but no dividend is proposed for the 2007 fiscal year.

• Media House will hold its AGM at the offices of Conyers, Dill, & Pearman in Clarendon House, Church Street, Hamilton on August 14.
