Good to be back in line-up

It's not been a bad week for me footballing wise after starting my first New England Revolution game for quite some time and helping us reach the semi-finals of the US Open Cup.

I have to give plenty of respect to USL-D2's Crystal Palace Baltimore who gave us a real scare by taking us all the way to a nervous shoot-out on Tuesday night at the Gillette Stadium.

Thankfully, Mauricio Castro kept his nerve from the spot to win us the game 5-3 and we now take on DC United next month with a place in the cup final at stake. I managed to get 67 minutes under my belt and although my foot injury is still not quite right, I'm fine to play and train.

Palace play in the same league as Bermuda Hogges and had already caused a major upset in the competition by beating New York Red Bulls, so we're relieved we've avoided becoming another one of their MLS scalps.

To be honest I don't think they're individually better than the Hogges players, but they were a very organised and disciplined team and that was their greatest strength.

I was surprised to hear that the Hogges lost 7-1 to Richmond Kickers earlier in the week, and I'm hoping they managed to get their season back on track when they played against Real Maryland Monarchs last night.

I spoke to Mingy (Damon Ming) earlier this week and he said it was just one of those games when everything went wrong. There's no way the Hogges should be getting beat by that kind of score – they have far too many good players for that.

This weekend marks the start of the Super League with the top four MLS teams and top four Mexican teams competing for $1 million. Considering the cash at stake, and the fact we have no MLS games for about a month, it's a competition the Revs will be taking very seriously.

The Super League started last season and this will be the first occasion the Revs have been involved. We play against Santos Laguna at home tomorrow, before playing CF Pachuca, also at home, next Wednesday. Chivas USA are also in our group with the two top teams progressing to a four team play-off.

It's another chance for the MLS teams to compete against other sides from around the world and I'm sure the Revs will give a good account of ourselves. The MLS Al-Star team was named earlier this week and I was delighted for the Revs' Matt Reis, Michael Parkhurst and Shalrie Joseph who were named alongside the likes of LA Galaxy's David Beckham and Chicago Fire's Blanco. They play against Premier League team West Ham in Toronto, Canada, later this month and it will be interesting to see how the MLS team gets on.

The last couple of seasons have seen the All-Stars beat Celtic and Chelsea, but it must remembered that the British teams are still in their pre-season. It would be fascinating to see what the outcome would be if the game was staged in October.

Bermuda's national team coach Kenny Thompson is currently in the Boston area and he plans to come and see our Super League game tomorrow. Kenny's already asked me if it would be okay if he came down and watched a few of the Revolution training sessions, so it will be great to catch up with him again as he starts his preparations for next month's Digicel Cup in Cayman Islands.
