THE JOB
Dennie O'Connor
Age: 33
Role: General manager, Tucker's Point Club / Harbour Court, Tourism Board member
What is your job?
To lead and direct a dynamic team that assists with our owners and guests to experience a new level of hospitality services; while being a team player in revitalising Bermuda's tourism with a new developing concept of "fractional ownership".
What is your favourite part of the job?
Continuous appreciation that this career choice is more of an experience then a job. Multi-tasking and taking on new and greater challenges is what excites me to achieve more and strive for more. Fractional ownership is the new wave of hospitality and Tucker's Point is and has become the leading product of hospitality in Bermuda and beyond.
What is the least favourite part of the job?
Back in my early days I would have said laying off staff /union strikes or questioned promotion opportunities; as of today that has become close to non-existent, so my least favourite part is not being able to deliver my owners a continuous Bermudaful sunny day.
What is your most interesting experience at work?
Experiencing and being part of the Tucker's Point family as it continues to develop into a five-star resort is an everyday growth of achievement. What's interesting is never knowing, and always expecting the unexpected of excitement.
What would you be doing otherwise?
Work, or lack of, has never been a fear or an excuse of not being able to achieve greater heights. I presently have my own company of a well established club lounge that caters to a good percentage of our Island's tourists and our locals and is managed by supportive family members. I will continue to grow to eventually having a family of my own.
