Bermuda's Karen Smith won the 40 to 44 age group category at the Lake Placid Ironman at the weekend.

Smith, who had already qualified for the World Championships in Hawaii later this year, finished the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and –26.2 mile run in a time of ten hours, 21 minutes, 57 seconds.

Julia Hawley finished in sixth position in the 45-49 age group. Her overall time of –11 hours, 13 minutes, 38 seconds did not qualify her for a spot at the World Championships.
