November Tech summit hosted 183 delegates – E-Commerce Minister

Bermuda hosted an international summit for 183 delegates in the global information, communication and technology sector.

The event, the World Information Technology Services Association (WITSA) Global Public Policy Summit, was put on by the Chamber of Commerce and the Department of E-Commerce last November at the Fairmont Southampton.

More than 40 countries were represented including Kenya, South Africa, Lebanon, Egypt and, New Zealand.

Minister of E-Commerce Michael Scott spoke about the event in the House of Assembly last Friday.

"The Global Public Policy Summit is a good example of how we can all play our part in sustaining the economy of Bermuda. On the surface, the summit might be seen as being of interest only to the IT sector and 'geeks'. It was this of course but so much more as well.

"The Global Public Policy Summit was a means of showcasing the talents and business opportunities available in Bermuda across multiple business sectors. The decision makers from multinational ICT companies are as interested in the business location of territories such as Bermuda, as executives from any other global business sector."

Mr. Scott said many of the delegates enjoyed their time in Bermuda and plan to come back for vacation.

The Premier Ewart Brown and Deputy Premier Paula Cox both attended the Summit along with student delegates from private and public schools.
