Pedestrian hurt after car mounts pavement and strikes traffic light
A man lost control of his car, slammed into the back of an SUV then drove on the sidewalk knocking down a pedestrian and a traffic light.
The accident happened on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the junction of Church Street and Par-La-Ville Road, outside the Esso City gas station.
The SUV driver, who didn't want to be named, claimed the other driver rear-ended her car and then turned onto the sidewalk.
"I stopped at the red light and he obviously didn't see me stop or that it was a red light. He started to hit the back of my car. Then he hit the lady. He made the lady fall over.
"I was a little shaken up because I wasn't expecting it. I am just mainly irritated because I just got the car out of the shop. I really hope it's not a hassle to get it paid for."
She said Police arrested the man. The injured woman was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to abrasions before being released.
"He clipped her. She backed up behind the wall but he caught her leg, then I think she fell back into the wall. If she hadn't seen him and backed up, he would've hit her straight on."
