Four arrested after disturbance

Four men have been arrested in connection with an alleged disturbance which took place at White Hill field in Sandys on Saturday.

Two of the men were arrested following an unrelated crash with a Police vehicle, shortly after the reported disturbance, while the other two men were picked up later.

Bermuda Police were called to the reported disturbance at roughly 8 p.m. on Saturday, a Police spokesman said.

"On arrival officers did not find any disturbance taking place or any witnesses to the alleged disturbance," he said.

"It appears the individuals involved made good their escape prior to Police arrival.

"Police remained in the area to monitor the majorette function taking place at White Hill Field and later assisted with traffic flow as patrons left the area at the conclusion of the event, which occurred without incident."

However, at 8.10 p.m., an allegedly speeding auxiliary cycle crashed into a marked Police car on Middle Road near the junction with Watch Hill Lane.

"As a result, traffic was diverted away from the scene at the junction with Tamarind Vale and the junction with Burnt House Hill," a Police spokesman said.

"It appears that Police units on mobile patrol were travelling west on Middle Road when an auxiliary cycle travelling at speed in the opposite direction collided with the front of a marked Police vehicle.

"The rider of the cycle, an 18-year-old Pembroke man, sustained an injury to his right leg and was taken to (King Edward VII Memorial Hospital) via ambulance for treatment. The cycle's pillion passenger, a 17-year-old Hamilton Parish man, sustained a shoulder injury and was taken by Police to KEMH for treatment. The officers in the Police vehicle were not injured."

The Police car received front end damage while the cycle received relatively minor damage.

However, both the young men injured in the collision with the Police car were arrested in connection with the White Hill Field incident after a bladed article and two pointed articles were recovered from the collision scene.

"Police on mobile patrol on Harbour Road also arrested a 27-year-old Pembroke man and a 23-year-old Pembroke man at the junction of Belmont Road in Warwick in connection with the same alleged disturbance. Inquiries are ongoing," the Police spokesman said.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the 24-hour confidential Crime Stoppers Hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
