Smith's man denies gold chain robbery charge

In custody: David Cox is accused of stealing a man's gold chain and threatening to shoot him. He's been remanded into custody pending a Supreme Court trial.

A man allegedly snatched another man's gold chain then told him: "I know what to do with guys like you shoot you."

David Jahwell Cox, 30, is said by prosecutors to have targeted victim Ellesworth Smith at Gombeys bar, in St. David's, on May 23.

The charges allege that he robbed him of the $1,600 chain using force, before uttering the threatening words.

Cox, from Smith's, pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared at Magistrates' Court.

He elected a trial with a judge and jury at Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded him into custody until a preliminary hearing on June 29.
