Butterfield Art Festival winners announced

Dean Walker was handed a $2,500 cheque by the Bank of N.T. Butterfield after he won an award for best professional at the Butterfield art festival.

"I was very pleased and shocked," said Mr. Walker. "It was quite an honour."

The winning painting, 'Coastline', was a pastel of the South Shore near Mr. Walker's home, complete with Longtails in mid-flight.

The other big winner of the day was Gilbert Darrell, who also took home $2,500 after being named best amateur.

Maxwell Kuzyk, who won the 12 and under competition, also earned himself an honourable mention in the best amateur contest.

Amy Evans was awarded $300 from Artcetera and another $500 from the bank for winning the Quick Art contest at the festival, with Otto Trott and Betty Ann Trott taking second and third place respectively.

In the People's Choice award category, three junior artists: Lulu Henderson, Jade Williams and Kate Cooper, earned the same number of votes, while, in the adult equivalent of the same contest, Kersley Nanette took the prize.

Nearly $10,000 in total was awarded to over 25 artists at the festival, organised to celebrate the bank's 150-year anniversary by the bank and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.
