Ascendant climbs 4.6%

Three climbing stocks helped the Bermuda Stock Exchange register a positive day amid light trading yesterday.

The biggest climber was Ascendant Group Ltd., parent of power company Belco, which gained 70 cents, or 4.6 percent, on the trading of 300 shares.

Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd., owner of this newspaper, was the most actively traded stock as 1,000 shares changed hands and the company rose 50 cents, or 4.3 percent, to close the week on $12.

Insurer and investments company Argus Group Holdings Ltd. registered a 3.4 percent jump, climbing 30 cents to close on $9.10, as 500 shares changed hands.

Rival insurer BF&M Ltd. was the only other domestic company to trade and lost 45 cents, or 2.9 percent, to close the week on $15.25, as 650 shares were exchanged.

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange Index rose 18.86 points, or 0.9 percent, to close on 2,114.67. Volume was 2,450 shares and turnover was $31,242.

The BSX Insurance Index of the Island's leading international insurance companies rose 8.34 points, or 0.9 percent, to close on 951.09.
