BSX climbs 1.1%

Butterfield Bank's shares climbed 1.7 percent last week, despite the group announcing its first quarterly loss in more than a decade.

The bank's gains helped The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange Index record a rise of 1.1 percent over the five days of trading. The index rose 50.5 points to close on 4,582,87.

The BSX Insurance Index enjoyed an even more positive week as it climbed 21.81 points (2.23 percent) to finish the week on 999.45.

Butterfield Bank closed on $15, up 25 cents on the trading of 8,350 shares.

Another issue to advance was Belco Holdings Ltd., which rose 45 cents (2.1 percent) to $21.45 last week on the trading of 100 shares.

Watlington Waterworks Ltd. however shed 75 cents (5.4 percent) to close on $13.25, after 363 of its shares changed hands.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Bermuda Ltd. remained at $6.05, as 1,500 shares traded and Devonshire Industries Ltd. also remained unchanged at $13.50, after 810 shares changed hands.

Three hundred shares traded in Argus Group Holdings Ltd., but the share price remained unchanged on $14.75.
