Players back 'a good coach and a brilliant man' as the right choice

Devarr Boyles has been given a glowing recommendation from his current and former players after being unveiled as the Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) youth director.

Boyles, who won the Martonmere Cup with Devonshire Cougars earlier this season, received rave reviews by players from both Cougars and his former club, Dandy Town, who believe he is the right man for the job.

Cougars striker Mark Steede said Boyles possessed excellent management skills and said he was superb at building relationships with his players.

"We'll have to find a new coach next season, but he's the man for the job, " said Steede. "He's a good coach, a brilliant man as long as players listen to him.

"He brings motivation and teaches from the classroom to the field.

"And he has different methods of getting across what he wants to do.

"Some coaches have a set plan and you either catch it or it goes over your head, but he's diverse and comes from all angles to get you to understand the plan.

"I like him as a coach, he was my coach at Dandy Town as a junior so I got the taste of his methods at a young level.

"He welcomes relationships with his players.

"At the end of training he will always shake players hands to thank them for their effort – little things like that go a long way."

Bermuda Hogges stars Damon Ming and Lashun Dill both paid tribute to Boyles with Ming optimistic about the future of local football with his former coach now on duty.

"It's a good appointment and a step in the right direction," said Ming.

"You can see from his success in his first year, taking Cougars undefeated in the first half of the season.

"This news just goes to show that Bermuda is serious about going to the next level."

Hornets winger Dill said Boyles was the main reason he left Boulevard to join Dandy Town.

"He was one of the reasons I came to Dandy Town. Boyles has been a very good man to me, he's a good person and for a job of that importance, he's the right person.

"He knows how to work with both kids and men.

"This is good for his career because he has always wanted to be in a good position within the sport, not only in Bermuda but overseas as well.

"And that's what he was telling his players, don't just look to be the best in Bermuda because you can achieve your goals worldwide.

"He thinks outside the box, and I feel he deserves it. He taught me a lot and made me the player I am today and I have a good relationship with him.

"He can handle the job with flying colours."
