Police issue warning about break-ins

Police have warned residents to ensure their homes are locked and secure before leaving them unattended after a spate of burglaries.

A spokesman said that Southampton Parish in particular has been targeted in the latest crimes.

Two break-ins were reported in the parish on Thursday afternoon alone.

Police attended the first incident in South Road around 2 p.m. after being notified that an Olympus camera had been stolen from a house in South Road at around 1.50 p.m., while the house was unoccupied.

The suspect was described as a dark skinned heavyset male, wearing a white T-shirt with blue writing, dark coloured pants, brown construction boots and a gold earring.

Fifteen minutes later, officers attended a home in Colony Valley, where an i-Pod nano, two Samsung cellular phones and jewellery had been stolen by a thief who gained entry while the residence was unoccupied. That break-in is believed to have occurred between 10 a.m. and 1.15 pm.

At 4.50 pm, Police visited a house in Rock Garden Lane, Smiths, where they were told that cash and jewellery had been stolen while the house was unoccupied between 8.30 a.m and 4.30 p.m that day.

Inquiries are underway, and the Police spokesman urged anyone with information about suspicious activity or individuals in their neighbourhood to call the Police on 295-0011.
