Bermuda Chamber Choir to present season's final concert

The Bermuda School of Music's Bermuda Chamber Choir will present its final concert of the 2008/2009 season on Sunday.

The performance will be held at Wesley Methodist Church, on Church Street, Hamilton, at 5 p.m.

Choir director Ryan Ellis said the programme will feature popular choral selections on the familiar Requiem text.

"First is a work entitled 'Lux Aeterna' by living composer Morten Lauridsen who is based out of Los Angeles, California," he said.

"This modern work also incorporates traditional compositional techniques to create a fine blend of old and new, with accessible enjoyment to some artistically progressive ideas."

The rest of the concert features grand staples of the choral repertoire, with two movements from Johannes Brahms' 'Ein Deutches Requiem' and the much-loved Gabriel Fauré Requiem, Op. 48. "Both of these works from the Romantic period have distinct characteristics from the composer's German and French heritage, respectively," Mr. Ellis said.

In addition, there will also be a special performance by concert pianist, Oliver Grant.

Vocal soloists include baritone Peter Nash and soprano Kimberley Brough, and organist Jeffrey Kempskie.

Tickets adults $20 and children $10 are available at C Travel and the Bermuda School of Music.
