British Airways is to cut the number of flights between Bermuda and London this winter.

The airline flew six days a week during the off-season last year.

"That was the first year we tried that," BA spokesperson Sallie Singleton said. "Unfortunately, with the economic situation in the US and the UK, we've had to cut that back to five."

Premier and Tourism Minister Ewart Brown said he understood the reasoning.

"We are sympathetic to this decision, which has been taken due to the downturn in the global economy," he said.

Flights between London and Bermuda are scheduled every day except Saturday and Monday from the end of October through March 2011.
