Live Healthy Bermuda is again challenging residents to get fit and be healthy in 100 days.

The 100-Day Challenge is a team-based weight loss and physical activity programme which will run between January and April 23, 2010.

Teams of between two and ten track their weight loss and minutes spent exercising, and post their weekly progress on www.livehealthybermuda.org.

Live Healthy Bermuda is part of the US-based Live Healthy America.

According to the website, past participants have lost 623,552 pounds, spent 340,097,538 minutes on activities and travelled 22,673,169 miles.

"Bermuda's success has been fantastic," said Live Healthy America director Troy Vincent. "We continue to be impressed by the support and enthusiasm demonstrated in Bermuda."

The upcoming 100-Day Challenge will be the third staged on the Island.

"We have seen over 3,000 participants in hundreds of teams over the past two years," said event organiser Elizabeth Ward.

"People tend to make resolutions after the holidays to get fit or lose weight. Working with a team can really help achieve their goals."

Participants receive several incentives including a T-shirt, nutrition, and recipe tips.

The group will also launch a kids' programme in February.

"Last year we saw over 1,000 children participate in our initial programme and the response was superb," said Sarah Burrows.

"With the increase and overwhelming concern about child obesity, this vital component is critical to the well-being of our youth and we are encouraging parents and guardians to become involved."

Teams may sign up for the challenge on www.livehealthybermuda.org. Entry is $25 per person.
