Prospect get through to Shield final

John Richmond spoiled Eagles' hopes of a promotion and Shield double last night at PHC when his double strike earned Prospect the right to meet Second Division champions Southampton Rangers in Sunday's final.

This replay at PHC Stadium was just two minutes old when Richmond broke the deadlock, converting a cross from the right which opened the Eagles defence.

And though Eagles had their fair share of chances to tie it up in the first half their main scorers Terrence Christopher and Everett Wellman could not find the net.

This ground has been cruel to the top Second Division teams in the last few weeks. It was where Rangers lost their perfect record in the Second Division and was also the venue when Social Club's lost out on promotion on Sunday.

However, Eagles clearly have a lot to do if they are to make a serious bid for survival in the top flight next season.

They threatened Prospect with a series of corners early in the second half, before Richmond struck his second goal in the 71st minute to settle the issue.

Robert Goodchild fed him a through ball and when Tyrone Simons came off his line, Richmond kept his composure, ran the ball around him and slotted it into an empty net from an acute angle.

Substitute Stevie Lightbourne of Prospect went close on two occasions for Prospect while Eagles' sub, Mike Williams, shot straight at keeper Peter Philpott from a good position. It just was not going to be Eagles' night as Prospect held on to reach their second Shield final in three seasons.
