Village regain the initiative
Frustrated after dropping two points against lowly Robin Hood in their last outing, league leaders North Village Rams made amends at the weekend with the 2-0 defeat of PHC.
Rams tore into it and were one up through Alan Smith after just three minutes. Damon Wade sealed victory a minute into the second half while PHC had Andre Caines sent off for serious foul play.
Key West Rangers won?t be relinquishing their title without a fight. They beat Tuff Dogs 2-0. Steven Mendes was on target while an own goal from Ryan Gaglio and the sending off of Jeff Sousa for swearing compounded PHC?s misery.
Dandy Town Roots are still third in a virtually unchanged table after a 2-2 thriller at St. David?s. After weathering pressure Roots took the lead five minutes before half-time when Ian Frith sent a long ball into the Onion defence and a defensive error gifted the ball to Darron Simons who fired home. Onions equalised when a cross from the left was punched clear by the Roots ?keeper only for John Lally to fire back and Eoghan O?Dwyer to gobble up the rebound.
Onions had the momentum and took the lead late in the game when substitute Phil Anderson?s first touch of the game was a shot from the edge of the area that curled in at the back post. With time running out, Roots equalised when Simons scored again after quick passing opened up the Onions defence and Simons scrambled the ball home.
Struggling Island XI picked up a point in a 3-3 cracker with BAA. Island?s Steven Simons set up Nathan Atcheson but BAA?s Dave Gibbs pulled one back just before half time. BAA?s Tommy Gribbon then took the lead on 60th minute with a looping header into top corner from a fine Noel McGrath free kick.
Island equalised from a well-taken penalty in 70th minute by ?keeper Jason Simons but Gribbon then headed in his second from a Paul Manders corner.
But with five minutes on the clock Paul Mello crossed the ball to Steven Simons, who put in Island XI?s third. Robin Hood, who still have games in hand, did their relegation fight little good with a 0-0 draw with Lobster Pot.
In the B Division Somerset Extros are just a point off top spot with a game in hand after getting the better of a crunch clash with East End title rivals St. George?s.
Rodney (The Key) Bascome broke the deadlock by stabbing home after the ?keeper spilled his strong right-foot shot. Midfield stalwart Mike Corday then spotted the ?keeper off his line and chipped him.
Valley are still in the hunt but had to be content with a point after a gripping 4-4 clash with Pest Control. Pest Control had the lion?s share of the chances before Valley stretched the Pest Control defence and broke the deadlock through a break from midfield after 20 minutes.
The second half started off equally frantically with Aaron Brown converting from the spot two minutes after the restart after being crudely fouled after a skilful, mazy run into the Valley box.
Valley took advantage of an enforced ?keeper change and responded immediately with an opportunistic strike from long range. Pest Control showed heart to bounce back and again equalised through Dante Foley. Valley were determined to seal all three points and went ahead again. Aaron Brown grabbed a brace and the put teams level again only for Valley to break the fumigator?s hearts by adding a fourth.
Not to be outdone, Pest Control wrestled a share of the points with Noel Edness getting a well-deserved leveller. Troy Crockwell was put through at the death only for the referee to blow time. Vasco beat Boulevard 8-2 on Saturday. Vasco led 4-2 at the break, with two from Ricardo Arruda and one each from Joe Barosso and Andrew Bento while Warren Iris and Mitchell Troot were on target for Boulevard.
In the second half, Vasco overran the Boulevard defence with a further two goals from Arruda and one each from Bo Saggar and Mike Smith.
