Santa arrives this weekend
before writing the final draft of his "naughty-or-nice'' list.
And during his visit, the jolly man in red will parade the streets of Hamilton during the annual Santa Claus Parade.
Organised by the Hamilton Junior Chamber of Commerce and the MarketPlace Limited, the parade will take place between 4.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Some 20 holiday floats and bands will leave the City Hall parking lot at 5.15 p.m. with the big elf as the main attraction.
Entertainment will be provided at the Flag Pole between 4.30 p.m. and 5.15 p.m., while the floats and bands assemble at City Hall.
The parade route will be west on Church Street, south on Par-la-Ville Road, east on Front Street, north on Court Street, west on Victoria Street, and back to the City Hall car park. Traffic travelling along Front Street will be diverted to different routes.
From 4 p.m. onwards traffic heading east will be diverted north on Queen Street, traffic travelling west will be directed north on Court Street, and buses heading west will be diverted north on Court Street to Victoria Street.
And from 5 p.m. traffic travelling east will be directed north on Bermudiana Road, traffic heading west will be diverted north on King Street, and buses travelling west will be directed north on Spurling Hill, west on Reid Street, and north on Court Street to Victoria Street.
When buses need to cross or enter the parade route they will be held until it is safe to do so, organisers said.
Certain roads along the parade route will also be closed.
From 4 p.m., Front Street -- between Queen and Parliament streets as well as Burnaby Street between Reid and Front streets -- will be closed.
And from 5 p.m. Church Street West -- between Washington Street and Par-la-Ville Road, Par-la-Ville Road between Church and Front streets, and Court Street between Front and Victoria streets -- will also be closed.
There will be no parking allowed on Front Street between Par-la-Ville Road and Court Street, on Court Street between Queen Street and Washington Street, on Court Street between Front Street and Church Street, on Victoria Street between Court Street and Cedar Avenue, nor in the City Hall car park after 2 p.m.
In case of rain, the parade will be rescheduled for Sunday, December 7.
