was found in the grounds of Grotto Bay Hotel on Monday morning.

The discovery ended a massive search over the weekend for Mr. Silbino Mendonca. Staff and management at Grotto Bay had helped Police scour the area.

The alert had gone out on Saturday evening when Mr. Mendonca failed to turn up for work.

Mr. George Robinson, Grotto Bay's general manager, said Mr. Mendonca had worked at the hotel seven years. "He was a first-class employee, a superb guy. He had lots and lots of friends at the hotel,'' he said. He added: "Everybody here is extremely shocked by what has happened.'' Mr. Robinson, who had joined the weekend search, said Mr. Mendonca, a single man, was planning to return to the Azores in December. He dismissed rumours Mr. Mendonca had worried about his work permit not being renewed. Police say foul play is not suspected, and a report will be sent to the coroner.
