Asia Global Crossing sells space

Global Crossing, said this week it agreed to sell wavelengths to Deutsche Telekom in a move that will give the German company a fibre-optic connection between the US and Asia.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Asia Global Crossing said it will supply Deutsche Telekom with two 2.5 Gbps wavelengths, with an option to buy two more.

Deutsche Telekom will have "seamless connectivity'' between the United States and Asia via Pacific Crossing, Asia Global Crossing's privately owned and operated trans-Pacific fibre optic cable system, the company said.

The wavelengths on Pacific Crossing should allow the company to tap the required bandwidth for running IP-related applications to meet growing customer needs in Asia Pacific, said Wolfram Puschner, International Network, Strategy and Planning, Deutsche Telekom.
