CableVision
Disgruntled Bermuda CableVision customers may be glad to hear that the company yesterday announced the addition of two new employees in an effort to improve customer service.
"We are actively working to improve service for our customers and these enhancements to our organisation are part of that effort," said CableVision General Manager Jeremy Elmas in announcing the appointments of Shirley Hardy and Alan Smith.
Shirley Hardy has been appointed to the recently-created position of quality control supervisor in which she will be responsible for inspecting the work of CableVision technicians to ensure that it meets the standards and specifications set by the company.
This includes checking installations for proper securing, grounding and bonding of cables and other technical features of the job as well as qualities such as neatness and appearance of the work performed. CableVision says that Ms Hardy's efforts help to ensure that customers receive high quality technical service that conforms with the standards required by the new cable system currently being built by CableVision.
Ms Hardy is a Pembroke native who began her career as an educator after studying at Bishop Otter College in Sussex, England. She taught at the Prospect Secondary School for Girls and at the Dellwood School. She later attended Bermuda Hotel College and received certificates from the Hotel and Motel Management Association and the Hotel and Catering Institute Management Association. Prior to joining CableVision, she was manager of the Botanic Garden Restaurant and has also held positions with Appleby Spurling and Kempe, the Department of Education and the accounts departments of Midsea Company, John S. Darrell and Son Ltd. and the Southampton Princess Hotel.
Alan Smith has been appointed to the newly created position of Customer Solutions Manager. The position is designed to bring qualitative and process-driven improvements to CableVision's customer service operations.
Mr. Smith reports directly to Mr. Elmas and is responsible for developing and implementing new standards and procedures for dealing more effectively with customer service issues.
Among the areas he is reviewing are dispatching, work assignments, trouble calls and helping customers. His position cuts across all functional areas of the company, allowing him to devise solutions that are both innovative and capable of being quickly implemented.
Mr. Smith has a background in customer solutions management, having previously held similar positions at the H.W.P. Group since 1997, at Holmes Williams and Purvey from 1992-1994 and at Bermuda Motors from 1986 to 1992.
A Bermuda resident for 27 years, he has also owned and operated two small businesses.
