they imported more than $150,000 worth of cocaine last week.

Paula Madill, William Maximchuk, and Aston Edwards have not been required to enter a plea on indictable charges they conspired with others to import the cocaine on June 28.

Magistrate Edward King released Edwards, 42, of 76 Spice Hill Road, on $100,000 bail backed with two sureties of $50,000 each.

Edwards must also report to Hamilton Police Station on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Tuesdays. Mr. King further ordered that Edwards' wife cannot stand as his surety.

Madill, 33, and Maximchuk, 44, both of Calgary, Alberta, were both remanded into custody until their next court appearances on July 19 and 20, respectively.

Madill appeared in court on Monday, while Maximchuk and Edwards both appeared yesterday.

Madill, Maximchuk, and Edwards face charges that between an unknown date and June 28, in Bermuda and elsewhere and with others, they conspired together to import cocaine.

The three are also charged that they did import the cocaine.

Maximchuk faces two further charges that he possessed cocaine with intent to supply and imported the drug on June 28.

Police were holding three suspected drug smugglers last night following a swoop in Pembroke.

The men, two from Warwick and one from Paget, were interviewed by narcotics officers yesterday.

Police refused to reveal the size of the haul, but they are treating it as an importation case which carries the heaviest penalties should the suspects go to trial and be convicted.

A Police spokeswoman said: "We suspect it's cocaine and we are not sure at this stage if further arrests will follow.''
