John Thompson's

the first annual Bacardi Rum Spring Regatta held on Sunday. Twelve Bermuda Offshore Cruising Association (BOCA) boats started in the two classes -- IMS-rated boats flying spinnakers and PHRF-rated boats on a short non-spinnaker course.

Winds from the northeast up to 20 knots took both fleets along North Shore to Shelly Bay and back to the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.

In IMS, Buddy Rego's Frers 41 Tsunami was up against four different sized J boats, the 24-foot Sadiiqi helmed by Emma Atherton, J92 Fat Tuesday driven by owner William Williams, John Thompson's J105 Monkeyshines and J125 Alphida-Starr with both owners Kirk Cooper and Rob Mulderig on board.

Monkeyshines entered the Great Sound via Head of the Lane while the rest of the fleet chose Two Rock Passage. The decision paid off.

Monkeyshines was first, Alphida-Starr came in second on corrected time followed by Sadiiqi .

Without a current IMS certificate, Wadson entered Swift of Paget in the PHRF class. The decision gave him a good race against short-handed Beneteau 375 Premier Cru with new owner Monte Stroup and first in the division on corrected time.

Paul Hubbard was second in Bermuda Oyster while David Roblin's carefree crew earned third place on Lullaby .
