Neck pain delays B flight

The flight scheduled to leave Bermuda for London's Gatwick Airport at 8.10 p.m. was postponed until 9 a.m. this morning after the first officer injured his neck, BA spokesman Mrs. Sally Singleton said.

The flight aboard a DC-10 aircraft was fully booked, she added. After hurting his neck on Monday night, the crew member spent yesterday at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and there was no time to bring in another officer, she said.

A new first officer, who arrived on another BA flight just after 6 a.m.

yesterday will join the crew for today's return flight. Under airline regulations, he had to rest overnight before flying, causing the 11-hour delay.

"Everybody who we had a number for has been contacted,'' Mrs. Singleton said.

"Our passengers are always extremely supportive.'' Mrs. Singleton could not recall offhand the last time a flight was postponed overnight for a similar reason.
