over the next month.

Secrecy surrounds the final recommendations of the Government-appointed team investigating future uses of the land. Those recommendations have been passed onto the Cabinet to make a final decision.

Even though the area has not officially been handed over by the United States Navy some ideas have already been made public. Suggestions include a possible film studio and a golf course.

The film studio idea followed filming of the Bermuda Grace movie on the Island earlier this year.

If the film proves a success in the United Kingdom and the United States it could lead to a series of episodes to be shown on television. The Annex, it has been suggested,could provide a perfect base for the film company.

The golf course idea was suggested by Mr. Mansfield (Jimmy) Brock, head of the Island's Commission on Competitiveness.

He believes it would boost the economy and lead to more jobs to help combat local unemployment. It would also ease congestion on other busy courses, particularly nearby Port Royal.

Other ideas have included using the site for housing and possibly a cottage colony.

Many of the buildings are still intact and could be left standing to be used for any of the suggestions.

The team looking into the future of the Annex is headed by Mr. Charles Collis.

He could not be reached for comment, but a Government spokesman said: "Recommendations have been made and passed onto the Cabinet.

"Mr. Collis and other members of the team are unlikely to want to talk about the recommendations.

"The Cabinet will look at them and come to a decision over the next month.
