Basketball tourists arrive
up against foreign opposition during the Cup Match holiday period, as Bermuda Basketball Association welcome Turk and Caicos Islands 19 and under squad.
The visitors arrived in Bermuda last night and will see action today (9.30 p.m.) and Saturday (7.30 p.m.) against a Bermuda squad led by co-captains Keith Caines and Steven Simons, with both games taking place at Bermuda College Gym.
"This team is coming off a world youth tournament in Milwaukee and should provide a good test for our youngsters,'' said BBA president Tim Trott.
"We're looking to gauge ourselves and see where we are at the moment, with the thought of possibly sending a team to the same tournament next year.'' Turks and Caicos participated in the Caribbean section of the event, which involved a total of 54 teams.
CAYMANS CRASH AGAIN CRI Caymans crash again West XI 151 Cayman Islands 132 Visiting Cayman Islands came close but in the end fell short, as they stumbled to their fourth consecutive defeat during their tour of Bermuda, beaten by 19 runs by a West Select XI.
Bermuda team skipper Taurean Manders led from the front as he first top scored for the West with 61 batting at number one, and later came back to take three for 20 from 7.3 overs of off-spin.
Manders was assisted in the scoring department by Aljani Gibbons with 28 as Omar Bryan took four for 31 for the visitors.
Bryan likewise performed admirably with the bat tallying 33 in a losing effort. Gibbons and Robert Richardson took two wickets each for West Select.
