And they rushed to tell Police that Larry Michael O'Connor was riding his cycle erratically on North Shore road.

O'Connor, of Mount Road, was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Prosecuting Sgt. Peter Giles said that the incident occurred on March 5, around 4 p.m. Police at the Aquarium were approached by a number of people about the rider on North Shore Road.

Sgt. Giles said: "They found the accused on his cycle veering dangerously from one side of the carriageway to the other.

"He crossed the carriageway and oncoming traffic had to stop to avoid hitting him.'' The officers said O'Connor's eyes were glazed and he smelled of alcohol. He failed a breath test.

In another case 63-year-old Russell Leverock was driving his car along Crow Lane, Pembroke, when he was in collision with a parked car.

When Police questioned Leverock, of Inland Lane, Pembroke, he was slurring his words, had glazed eyes and failed a breath test.

Leverock said that he did not realise how many he had to drink and apologised to the court.
