David Benevides won the family category of this year's Institute of Bermuda Architects sandcastle competition. The Benevides family in fact won the adult category of the competition.
KINGS OF THE CASTLES -- The Benevides family, pictured right, from Smith's came away with first prize (family section) at this year's Institute of Bermuda Architects sand castle competition, held at Horseshoe Bay on Saturday.
Shown from left are Georgia and David Benevides and their son Ryan. Above is another imaginative creation.
The rain held off as 16 teams, each entering one of five different categories, had just four hours to construct the most extravagant castle or delicate sand sculpture. It is the third year the competition, supported by the Ministry for Cultural Affairs, has been held and the judging panel had a particularly difficult time of selecting the best designs.
"We had some great entries,'' Institute President Colin Campbell said afterwards.
