And the ruckus also launched an internal Police investigation after the public complained about how the Police handled the incident.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said a fight erupted on Church Street, just east of Queen Street, around 12.30 p.m. between an 18-year-old Pembroke man and a 21-year-old man, also from Pembroke.

Eyewitnesses told The Royal Gazette that a young man had just parked his bike at the stop light before City Hall, when a second man stopped his bike, pulled the teen off the bike and attacked him.

Mrs. James Barnett said the fight was the result of a domestic dispute which took place the day before. Passersby said that a motorcycle officer interrupted the beating by confronting the offender.

When more officers arrived the attacker fled into an alley, through Washington Mall and back onto Church Street via Washington Lane.

Mrs. James Barnett said the 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene, but escaped custody.

According to witnesses the culprit tried to ride off on a bike but was thwarted when he rode into a Police car.

The man fled on foot, followed by Police who gave chase.

Mrs. James Barnett said the chase ended in the vicinity of Bernard Park on Dutton Avenue where the man was again arrested.

Spectators said the 18-year-old victim was taken away from the scene by Police with head injuries.
