Top runners in pre-Derby test
away, most of the Island's top runners are expected to put their fitness to the test this Sunday in the third annual Pure Water 10K.
For the last two years, the men's winner of the Pure Water has gone on to claim the May 24 crown.
Kavin Smith followed his 10K victory with a Derby triumph in 1993 and last year it was the turn of Brett Forgesson to complete the `double'.
Both Smith and Forgesson are expected to be in the starting field on Sunday for what is the 11th event in the current KPMG road race series.
Last year saw Forgesson win by just under a minute from Kevin Tucker in 32.30, the fastest time recorded in the race in five years.
Women's winner Karen Adams clocked a fast 37.02, pipping Maria Conroy Haydon by 27 seconds but outside her own race record of 36.42 set in 1991.
Sunday's race, starting and finishing at National Sports Club, gets underway at 9.00 a.m.
