Roberts top of the pots again^.^.^.
he prevailed in a tense final battle against Brian Walker.
In the end Roberts was able to conquer his nerves and hold steady as he ran to a 4-2 win over his resilient opponent.
The finish was in stark contrast to the beginning when it appeared as if Roberts would dust the table with Walker.
Roberts started in explosive fashion utilising breaks of 21 and 20 in seizing the first three frames.
However, Walker was able to remove the cobwebs in time to take a close fourth frame and then the fifth, pulling to within one of the champion.
And it looked as if Walker would likewise take the sixth, carving out an early 24 point lead.
But this was where Roberts dipped into his experience reserve, methodically dissecting the table with a series of superb pressure pots and safety shots to reel in Walker and then finish him off.
Meanwhile, the new Bermuda Open Doubles Champions are Steve Dunleavy and Andy Wright, who had little trouble dispatching Lawrence DeSilva and Roger Henderson 3-0.
What had initially seemed to be a close match-up proved instead a mis-match with the steady play of Dunleavy and Wright easily overcoming the erratic potting of DeSilva and Henderson.
The Bermuda team to take part in the upcoming tournament in Toronto, Canada will include Stephen Roberts, Paul Charleton and Steve Dunleavy.
