Aitken sisters smash swim records
youngsters at the Harbour Club Championships over the weekend.
Competitors arrived from clubs in the USA, Canada and England, and some of Bermuda's most promising swimmers responded with three age group and national records as well as a string of personal bests.
Sisters Kiera and Ashley Aitken stole the show as they combined for all three new marks -- Kiera in the girls' 15 and over 100 and 200 metres backstroke and Ashley in the 14 and under 50 metre freestyle. Kiera clocked 1:09.31 and 2:31.72 to set new backstroke marks while Ashley smashed the 50 free record with a time of 27.46.
The NRG team from the USA were particularly strong in the 14 and under girls' division, claiming several firsts while other overseas swimmers produced all the finalists in the girls' 13-14 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Thirteen year-old Bermudian Roy-Allan Burch turned in a superb performance in the 50m freestyle, reaching an age-group AAAA time of 25.52 seconds.
Lara Loescher dominated the girls' eight and under by winning all six of her events, while Ronald Cowen led the field in his five races in the boys' senior division.
Brett Fox (10-11), Kiera Aitken (15 & over), and Elizabeth Brewen (9-10) each earned four first place finishes.
