without any apparent motive was back in Magistrates' Court yesterday where he asked to be sent to St. Brendan's hospital for treatment instead of prison.

Irving W.L. Butterfield, who lives at the Salvation Army shelter, admitted causing almost $300 worth of damage to a display window of a store in the Bermudiana Arcade, Hamilton, on the evening of March 16.

Police on foot patrol that night came upon the shattered glass around 9.15 p.m. Investigations led to Butterfield. Nothing was reported missing from the store.

Butterfield told magistrate the Wor. John Judge that he had had "a nervous condition'' since he was a child, and without proper medication he couldn't control himself.

"I need to be sent to St. Brendan's,'' he said. "I don't want to go up to Casemates. That place damages my mind every time I go up there.'' Mr. Judge ordered two medical reports on Butterfield and remanded him in custody until sentencing next month "for his own safety and the safety of the general public''.
