customer's savings into a false account.

Jeanann Dorothy White, of Northcliff Lane, Devonshire, then made several withdrawals, Magistrates' Court heard.

White admitted 17 charges of theft and fraud. The 26-year-old also asked for 33 similar cases to be taken into consideration.

At a previous hearing White had denied the charges.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said the offences came to light when a customer entered the bank on August 12. She wanted to withdraw money, but was told her savings were insufficient, he said.

While the customer believed she had more than $12,000 in savings there was only $2,918.59 in her account.

Insp. Duffy said an investigation showed White had set up a false account using the customer's personal details. She then transferred the customer's savings to the account, and made several withdrawals.

Insp. Duffy added White, who had no previous convictions, claimed she had needed money to buy materials for an extension to a property.

"$1,000 has been repaid,'' he said.

Mr. Delroy Duncan, defending, said White now had money to cover the outstanding debt. And he produced a $7,300 cheque to Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis.

Mr. Duncan said there were particular circumstances surrounding the case.

Mr. Francis adjourned the hearing until October 13 for a social inquiry report. White's bail was extended.
