away, Kavin Smith and Anna Eatherley (above) have established themselves as the firm favourites. Both showed good form on the weekend, romping to victory in the 7.1 mile Round the Sound Race. Smith finished more than three and half minutes ahead of his nearest rival to clock 39:23, while Eatherley, showing no ill effects from a recent ankle injury, put more than two minutes between herself and second placed Maria Conroy Haydon, to finish in 46:08. Sunday's race was also a good day for the `old-timers' with Sylvester Jean-Pierre, the first Master (over 40), taking second overall behind Smith in 43:04 and Harry Patchett, the first veteran (over 50), finishing third overall in 45:36.
