to add to his triumph on Front Street last month.

Krupp was the first category two rider over the line in the one hour plus one lap criterium at Southside, St David's, on Sunday, in a time of one hour, two minutes and 45 seconds.

Just three seconds behind was Winner's Edge team-mate Greg Hopkins, followed by Canadian Peter Eccles (1:03:00) and Mike Lee (1:03:31).

Fifty riders battled against strong winds as well as a strong field in the fourth Bermuda Bicycling Association road race of the season on a new course featuring a tough series of technical turns.

Friends and rivals Jonathan Herring and Tyler Butterfield fought out a tremendous battle in the 15-16 boys category, with Herring edging it at the line in the 45-minute plus one lap race.

Both 16-year-olds were credited with the same time, 47 minutes, 43 seconds, comfortably clear of closest challengers Nick Taylor and Justin Simmons.

Krupp grabbed the initiative from the start and as a gap began to open on the rest of the field, it was Lee, fresh back from a cycling trip to Europe, who led the chase.

At the 30-minute stage, Hopkins took advantage of the overworked Lee and attacked off the front into a strong head wind, taking with him Herring and Tyler Butterfield.

Eccles joined the four leaders and when the junior pair completed their race it left the three category two riders to battle it out to the finish.

Two other categories produced thrilling finishes. Newcomers Jay Simons and Andy Kain were both clocked at 47:20, but it was Simons who pipped his rival to first place in the novices.

And in the men's veterans category it was the same story, with Vic Ball edging Jim Butterfield at the line, though both riders were clocked at 46:00.

Paul Claude won the category three race in 1:04:40, ahead of Mike Jeffries and Earl Godfrey.

Heather Brand pipped Sheila Ruse and Carolyn Conway in the women's race, while Matthew Herring beat James Adams and Adam Petty to first place in the 13-14 boys.

Other category winners were Geoffrey Smith (boys 11-12), Ricky Sousa (under-10 boys) and Laura Ruse (under-10 girls).

The next race in the series is on Sunday at Southside, at 9.00 a.m.
